Pumpkin Seed Spread

A simple spread that has a nutty sort of taste (even though it's nut free), which is full of fertile goodness for both you and your partner.

Pumpkin Seed Spread

INGREDIENTS

  • 250g of raw pumpkin seeds

  • 6 tablespoons of avocado oil

  • Pinch of pink Himalayan salt

First whizz up the pumpkin seeds in a processor until their finely ground, then add the avocado oil and salt. It should form a paste like consistency. Transfer into a jar and store in the fridge.

FOUR OF MY FAV WAYS TO EAT IT

  • Spread on toasted sourdough bread

  • Added to smoothies/smoothie bowls

  • Spread on carrot sticks and slices of apple

  • Dolloped on to porridge

WHY IS IT GOOD FOR YOUR FERTILE HEALTH?

  • Pumpkin seeds: For men, they are rich in Zinc, which helps to improve sperm motility and quality. For women, Zinc plays an essential role in protein synthesis and cell division, which is important in the production of good quality eggs and embryo development. They are rich in magnesium, which is important in the production of progesterone and ensures proper blood supply to the uterus and – deficiencies have been linked to infertility. Also, they are rich in iron, which helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue – deficiencies have been linked to anovulation (lack of ovulation) and poor egg quality

  • Avocado oil: This is a healthy form of fat, rich in vitamins and minerals. You want to have 'good' fats in your diet as they provide the necessary precursors for healthy hormone levels needed for optimal fertility
